2012 Term 2 Week 8 - Iwi liaison

We have been busy working on our opening ceremony with our students practicing their singing, dancing and playing of instruments.

Our opening ceremony will begin with a powhiri where we as the Tangata Whenua (hosts) welcome the Manuhiri (visitors) to our school. We have been working with Whaea Roxie from Rosehill College and they have provided us with 2 senior students to work with our children on their waiata (songs), haka (welcome dance) and karanga (call).

We have also been lucky to have the expertise of Matua Roimata to guide us in our protocols, language and organisation. His guidance will ensure that we create protocols for our school which are in keeping with the three local iwi we align with; Ngati Tama Oho, Te Akitai and Ngati Te Ata

Our motto is tikaranga which means weaving our way and the collaboration between our local iwi, local college and HPS is an example of how we weave together the knowledge and expertise of our extended community to enable learning for our children. We are lucky to have such willing expert help in our community and look forward to a long and fruitful relationship with both Rosehill College and our local iwi.
