2013 Term 1 Week 5

Purple Power at HPS
On Friday our little school raised $487.20 for the Purple Cake Day charity; "kids helping kids through celebration, education and fundraising".

HPS students embraced the mantra of the charity through using design thinking strategies to develop celebrations and raise awareness of the needs of children in Kenya, Nepal and Haiti. Through this process they raised an amazing amount of money, had a lot of fun and learned about the needs of a child and the difference between first world and third world problems.

Our charities are chosen by our students and we support one per term, linking this to our learning through a "two day event" to inquire deeply into the purpose of the charity. Students will be invited to choose the charity we support in term two over the next couple of weeks from a list of charities nominated by our students.
